Spring clean your diet

carrotMarch represents both the beginning of Spring and National Nutrition Month. In honor of these important occasions, here are some tips for “spring cleaning” your diet.

  • Replace regular and diet soda with unsweetened iced tea
  • Swap out refined white flour in favor of whole grains
  • Decrease your sodium intake by substituting salt with fresh herbs and spices
  • Trade-in one half of the called-for butter, shortening or oil in any baked goods recipe with applesauce or prune purée
  • Cook more
  • Avoid artificial sweeteners
  • Eat more vegetables with the 1-2-3 rule
  • Work towards eating no more than 25 grams of added sugar per day
  • Use plain low-fat Greek yogurt in place of sour cream (You may find you prefer the taste!)
